"It is possible that Knize was a pupil of Tomasek; regardless, the latter's music greatly influenced the compositions of the former. He held a number of positions in the theatre and composed a number of sacred works particularly six masses. The most important compositions Knize arranged were for the guitar and voice. He wrote three major pedagogical works for the guitar, numerous solo works and made a great contribution to the advancement of the Czech art song. Knize's most popular pieces were those songs with a patriotic or national flavor. As a performer Knize played the violin, bassoon and guitar and he was also a singer. ~ Keith Johnson, Rovi"
